MG BTCC Manufacturer Winners 2014Posted on: 2014-10-14 11:28:37
MG wins first manufacturer title in British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)
> MG driver Jason Plato finishes second in drivers championship as most successful BTCC driver ever
> British brand ends Honda’s four year reign as champions in dramatic season climax at Brands Hatch
> MG also celebrating fastest growing manufacturer and 90th anniversary in 2014
MG fans worldwide are celebrating today as the iconic British brand celebrated its maiden manufacturer’s title in the prestigious Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in the season finale at Brands Hatch. The victory was an incredible result for MG, following the brands race to the grid after the rapid formation of the team in 2012 and ending the four year dominance of Honda in the Championship.
MG Sales and Marketing Director Guy Jones said “Everyone at MG is delighted with this victory and the team’s success in placing the iconic MG brand, with its rich history of motorsport, back at the top of such a prestigious, exciting and challenging championship as BTCC. I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this a success both on and off the track. The team here at MG, Ian Harrison and the team and Triple Eight, the drivers Jason Plato, Sam Tordoff, Tesco, Castrol and all our other sponsor partners”.
This programme has been a key part in re-establishing the MG brand in the UK and also globally. It has raised awareness of the brand with TV, online and press coverage that is not only followed in the UK but also across the world. The MG6 GT race car was designed to resemble the road car as closely as possible and in addition to the on-track programme, we have also operated a very successful mobile showroom next to the track, so BTCC fans can see and touch the latest MG6 and MG3 products.
MG literally raced to the grid in 2012 where the MG6 GTs turned their wheels in anger for the first time in the opening race and yet the team was winning races from that initial weekend. The goal was to win the manufacturers championship but to do this meant defeating the established and highly successful Honda team, reigning champions for the past four years. It is therefore a great achievement and credit to all at Triple Eight to achieve this in just three seasons.
The news of MGs maiden victory was announced during a dramatic action packed weekend at the final weekend of the championship at Brands Hatch that saw MG drivers Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff start the weekend by taking pole and P2 in qualifying to lock out the front row of the grid in race one.
The opening lap of the first race saw Sam pass Jason off the start line before a huge multi-car accident on the first lap. The MG duo showed their class in the first race delivering an impressive one-two.
Race two secured the manufacturers championship for MG before a rain soaked race three in near zero visibility conditions, where Sam finished an impressive fourth and Jason an amazing seventh after starting from the back in the pit-lane. Jason finished second in the driver’s championship and remains the most successful driver in the history of BTCC.
MG is currently the fastest growing automotive brand in the UK with sales up 573 percent year to date (SMMT data) due to outstanding value of the latest products, which are designed and assembled in the UK and the major expansion of the national dealer network. The MG3 supermini offers top of the range specifications including DAB audio and Bluetooth, finished off with diamond cut alloy wheels all for under £10,000. With a range of over one million exterior and interior personalisation options and group 4E insurance it is designed attract a whole new younger generation to the brand, in addition to appealing to loyal MG fans.
The MG6 is already a favourite with MG owners for its drivability, affordability and exceptionally high levels of standard equipment included and was also voted by owners to be the Best Handling and sixth overall Best Car to Own in the 2014 Auto Express Driver Power Awards.
The appeal of the MG6 product range has been further increased with the addition of the new 350Nm, 129g CO2 performance diesel and new business lease rates starting from just £149 per month plus VAT.
MG is also celebrating the 90th anniversary of the brand in 2014 with exclusive 90th Limited edition models of both MG6 and MG3 now available.

History of John Watson's MGBPosted on: 2014-10-06 14:14:01
I purchased this 1964 MGB Mk1 in June 1989, it was many shades of Iris Blue with the glove box and door trims broken and rust holes in the floor, it was MOT’d and the engine ran.
Over the winter of 1991/2 The car was stripped by Steve and Ray Illing at Abingdon Car Restorations just outside Abingdon, new wings, floors and sills were fitted and painted in the correct colour of Iris Blue. The engine was dismantled, balanced and rebuilt by Geoff Allen, an ex Abingdon MG factory man.
The car was completed in time to enter in to the EuroDisney Rally in aid of Children in Need in May 1992, EBW45B left the Abingdon MG Factory on the 13th November 1964, it was one of the first MGB’s fitted with the new 5 bearing engine, but still with the 3 syncro gearbox. It went to University Motors in London and then onto Harold Webb Motors in Romford where it was sold to a Mrs Irene Port from Upminster in Essex and register as HEV 612B on the 3rd December 1964.
The MGB was owned by two owners before being re registered EBW45B in 1986, I am the 4th owner.
In 1995 EBW was one of the cars that drove to Geneva to be present at the launch of the new MGF.
Other countries visited in with the MGB are Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland and Ireland, as well as attending many events in the UK.
In readiness for the 50th anniversary year of the MGB in 2012, I had the car restored for the second time by Steve and Ray of Abingdon Car Restoration, this time we fitted new pull handle doors and had another respray of Iris Blue.
On January 1st 2013 the speedo clocked over 99,999.
MG6 Wins Best Handling AwardPosted on: 2014-04-30 12:26:00
The MG6 scoops the best handling award in the 2014 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey. Now in its 13th year, the awards have been voted for by 50,000 car owners and readers of Auto Express, the UKs biggest selling weekly automotive magazine.
The MG6 is in good company, replacing the Porsche Cayman as last years winner. The MG6 manages to combine engaging chassis dynamics and everyday practicality with five seats, high levels of equipment as standard on all models, class leading interior and boot space, and award winning safety and security systems.
The MG6 boasts superior MG driving dynamics available in both a sporty GT Fastback and Magnette saloon body styles; both available in petrol and diesel variants. The MG6 range starts from just £15,455 and includes the new 350 Nm, 150 PS, six speed stop-start diesel engine, emitting only 129g/Km of CO2, making the diesel variant road tax exempt for the first year and costing only £110 a year to tax thereafter.
Under the current Q2 specification upgrade offer, all MG6 customers automatically upgrade in specification for no additional costs. For example, an upgrade from an S variant to an SE is a saving of £1,200 and benefits from additional equipment such as satellite navigation, rear parking sensors, cruise control and leather steering wheel. Building on the SE trim, the TSE offers a saving of £2,000 and features front parking sensors, 18” alloy wheels, rear parking camera, leather trim, Bluetooth, automatic headlights, automatic windscreen wipers and electric heated seats. MG6 GT SE customers will be offered the opportunity to upgrade to a Magnette, saving £3,000. PCP offers are available on all MG6 variants from only £199 a month.
Figures announced by the SMMT at the beginning of the month, show MG as the fastest growing manufacturer in the UK, for both March and 2014 year to date. As the perfect celebration for the marque’s 90th anniversary year, MG Motor UK has recorded the best ever Q1 sales performance, as year to date sales increase by 574 per cent. The success of the iconic British brand is due to the launch of the MG3 supermini, introduction of a high-tech diesel engine in MG6 and rapidly expanding dealer network in the UK.
Alex Ferguson takes delivery of a VoltPosted on: 2013-01-27 12:30:38
While Sir Alex Ferguson makes himself heard in press conferences, on the pitch and in the dressing room, he’ll probably drive past you this Christmas and you won’t even notice.
Sir Alex took possession of an extended range electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, as part of the club’s partnership agreement with the global car manufacturer. The Volt can travel up to 50 miles (80 kilometers) gas and emission free – and virtually silent – before the on-board generator kicks in to add a further 300 miles (500 km) of extended range.
Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: ”I think the Volt is absolutely phenomenal. A friend of mine drove one in the States and kept going on and on about it, so when I had the opportunity I said ‘yeah I’m going to try it because it’s the car of the future, really’. I’m very pleased with it.”
County Chevrolet Sponsor Local Garden CentrePosted on: 2012-11-02 18:02:46
County Chevrolet were proud to sponsor our local garden centre for Halloween celebrations.
We displayed a scary looking Chevrolet Cruze Station Wagon plus a Spark and Capitva - a great looking display and ideal for giving away lots of "spooky" sweets to the large number of children that attended the Halloween and Fireworks evening on 31st October 2012.
Interested in the new Cruze Station Wagon? Then let the withches fly away on their broomsticks and come down to the showroom for an even better look.
Captiva - Tow Car Of The Year 2012Posted on: 2012-10-02 10:00:02
The Caravan Club has awarded Chevrolet’s Captiva the title of Best Tow Car in its weight category.
The competition, which for the first time categorised entrants by Vehicle Excise Duty tax brands rather than price, had a judging panel of 10 experts who decided that the Captiva’s capabilities beat the competition in the 1800kg and over category.
Daniel Gregorious, national sales and operations manager at Chevrolet, was at the awards ceremony at the RAC Club in London, where the winners were announced. He said: “This is amazing news for Captiva – Chevrolet has a long history of SUVs and Captiva is a safe and practical model for towing.
“We launched a ‘Safe Towing Guide’ for drivers this summer which has proved very popular, and we know many people who buy Captiva do so with towing in mind. We are really pleased the judges recognised Captiva’s capabilities in this competitive sector.”
The competition attracted 23 entrants, and was held at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire. The panel of 10 judges included journalists and committee members. Special guest Sir Ranulph Fiennes, also watched the testing process, and then presented the class awards at the ceremony last week.
